Registration & Access

How do I register with the library?

Please visit your campus library and speak to the library staff. You will need to visit the library with your identification documents, which may include an admission letter for students or an appointment letter for staff.

After registration, can I access the electronic library?

Yes. Once you are registered, you can access our electronic library for eBooks, e-journals, and several other electronic databases.

Busitema University Library services offer a hybrid model of information services, providing access to both print and electronic resources.

Visit the library website at https://library.busitema.ac.ug/

Can I access the electronic library without coming to campus?

Yes. Most of our electronic resources are accessible both off campus and on campus.

Off-campus access is available through MyLOFT and Sempertool applications.

MyLOFT: https://app.myloft.xyz/

Sempertool: https://busitema.sempertool.dk/

Make sure you are registered for these platforms to access subscribed electronic resources off campus. Visit a campus library for support on registering for off-campus. A username and password will be assigned to you for this purpose.

You may also use the Ask the Librarian portal on the library website to chat with librarians for more details.

Books & Borrowing

How can I find a book I want in the library?

Browsing library shelves successfully is what we want you to experience in our library. Finding books may sometimes be challenging for first-time users.

The library has a catalogue to help you search available physical books using your smartphone or computer.

Search the library catalogue at https://libcat.busitema.ac.ug/

You may also talk to library staff for more guidance.

How many books can I borrow at a time?

All users are allowed to borrow 4 books at a time for a period of two weeks. Renewals for borrowed items are allowed in most circumstances.

How are books arranged in the library?

Books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) scheme, which assigns numbers to subject areas.

The arrangement follows the smallest number to the biggest number and a “left to right, top to bottom” arrangement on the shelves.

All shelves are labeled with subject labels and numbers for guidance.

How do I renew a book?

Return the book before its due date to the library and request a renewal. Renewal is often granted depending on the nature of the book.

Where do I return my borrowed books?

All borrowed books should be returned at the library circulation or issue desk.

How much are overdue fines?

Fines are 500 Ugandan shillings per extra day. We encourage you to avoid fines by asking for renewal if you still need to use the book.

Research Reports & Past Papers

How can I access past research reports?

Access to research reports in the library is possible both online and physically.

For online access, visit the institutional repositories: https://ir.busitema.ac.ug/ and https://bdears.busitema.ac.ug/home

Physical access means visiting the library. Check with the librarian at the reference desk for a research report index and further assistance.

How do I submit my research report to the library?

Submitting end-of-course research reports is done online. Students are expected to visit the institutional repositories: https://ir.busitema.ac.ug/ and https://bdears.busitema.ac.ug/home

Register for an account, verify your user account, then log in using your registered credentials.

Follow the prompts, fill in your research details, attach the research report, and click submit.

Note: The submitted research should have both the signatures of the students and supervisors on the acknowledgement and approval pages.

Can I have access to past papers?

Yes. Physical past papers are available in the library. Visit the campus library to access these resources.

Library Facilities & Services

Am I allowed to use the computers in the library?

Yes. The computers in the library are set up for all users and are used on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Can I print or photocopy in the library?

Currently, the library does not offer printing and photocopying services.

Library Clearance

How do I clear with the library?

Library clearance comes at the end of your current programme of study. You will need to visit the campus library to get support from the librarians.

Make sure you have checked your library account and returned all library materials.

Where applicable, you may be required to submit a digital copy of your research project and a physical hard-cover bound copy of the same.
